NAGASWARA Music, founded in 1999 by Rahayu Kertawiguna in Jakarta. After 6 years of existence, in 2005 NAGASWARA spread its wings by establishing a publishing company, namely PT NAGASWARA PUBLISHERINDO and in 2014 changed its name to PT NAGASWARA PUBLISHERINDO MUSIK.
In the music industry, music publishers or publishing companies are responsible for ensuring that songwriters and composers receive royalties when their musical compositions are used commercially. Through a contractual agreement, the songwriter or composer grants the copyright management rights to his musical composition to the music publisher, which is then licensed. With these management rights, music publishers help monitor where compositions are used, collect royalties, and then distribute them to composers.
The copyright held and maintained by music publishers is one of the most important intellectual property in the music industry (the other is the copyright to master recordings which are usually owned by labels or record companies).
